Abstract

AT THE pulp and paper mill of Crown Zellernach Corporation, West Linn, Oregon, U.S.A., ultrasonic energy released by bearings during early wear stages is detected and it is possible to determine which bearings need replacement before they give trouble. This ultrasonic detection system has been in use for more than a year on printing paper mill machines on which the unexpected failure of a single bearing would normally necessitate immediate and costly stoppage.
