Abstract

THE No. 2 BASE Communication Earth Station at Goonhilly Downs, Cornwall, is part of a U.K.‐U.S.A. link for transmitting and receiving T.V. telephone and telex communications. The route is: G.P.O. Tower‐Goonhilly‐Intelsat 3 (U.S.A. satellite)‐Mill Hill, U.S.A.‐Sorting Centre. It was commissioned last September and handles almost £8000 traffic per hour, with considerable facilities for extending this.
