Abstract

The protection of electronic data processing (EDP) systems receives insufficient attention. Underdeveloped control procedures and lax supervision allow insufficient practices to thrive, often to the degree that they influence corporate decision making. The damage potential from this misuse of data resources can only increase as the growth of EDP continues. A large part of EDP security is user education. Security must be incorporated into the total programme of systems planning, acquisition and evolution. The Data Protection Act has implications for all companies and any failure of computer security may well bring the company into conflict with the law.
