Abstract

New world business realities have emerged since the abatement of the Cold War. Business activities have become internationalized. International and regional organizations (e.g., UN agencies, World Bank, OPEC) have relied heavily on expatriate employees to conduct their business in the headquarters or abroad. The work‐place has become more diversified than ever. Business, rather than ideological motives, directs nations' behavior. And the quest for regional free trade blocks has been seen as necessary for a nation to counter national economic decline and to create a position as an influential global actor. Thus business organizations realize that to grow and prosper, they have to be global in their orientations and activities. A recent survey of the Conference Board confirms this. Corporations with global operations grew faster in every industry and in all size categories than those without such operations.
