Hi-SPACE launches CD-Rs for professional librarians and archivists

French CD manufacturer and distributor, Hi-SPACE, has warned professional librarians and archivists that many of the CDs currently used for storage may become unreliable after just ten years. As a result, much critical and irreplaceable multimedia may be lost forever. Many librarians will already be approaching the 10-year CD "fall-off".

According to Paul Chantry, head of UK Sales for Hi-SPACE: "The CD industry simply did too good a job of persuading professionals that CDs by their very nature would last forever – nobody discussed the range of qualities available. But the onslaught of cheap recordable CDs can only have the effect of creating unhappy users – it's inevitable there'll be stories of important public data being lost. It's vital that any information that needs to be around in decades to come is stored on professional-quality CD-Rs".

Hi-SPACE has launched its "Gold" range of premium-quality CD-Rs, which will save data securely for up to 100 years. These are designed specifically for professional audio, video and multimedia applications including professional librarians, archivists and digital photographers. They are available at a 15 per cent price-premium to conventional CD-Rs. The full range of Hi-SPACE CDs is available from most branches of PC World, Currys and Richer Sounds, or directly from Hi-SPACE UK.
