CAS and CSA agree to provide additional databases on STN International

Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) and CSA have agreed to add eight CSA databases to the STN International online network during 2004. With the agreement, STN, which is operated by CAS in North America, FIZ Karlsruhe in Europe and JST in Japan, remains the largest independent online provider of CSA databases, focusing on CSA’s offerings in the life sciences, environmental and aquatic sciences, computer sciences, materials science and engineering and aerospace.

Subject areas represented by the CSA databases soon to join STN are biotechnology, engineering specialties, earth and environmental studies and library and information science.

Suzan A. Brown, CAS Vice President of Marketing and Sales, said:

  • We welcome the opportunity to provide STN users worldwide access to additional CSA databases. With the 19 CSA files already on STN, this new offering will make STN an even more robust sci-tech information resource. It is through the cooperation of respected scientific organizations such as CSA that STN has been able to serve the diverse needs of the scientific and technical community for 20 years.

In addition to the forthcoming databases, STN currently provides access to CSA files covering a range of subject areas, including files loaded at the STN Service Center in FIZ Karlsruhe:

  • aerospace database (AEROSPACE);

  • aluminium industry abstracts (ALUMINIUM);

  • aquatic sciences and fisheries abstracts (AQUASCI);

  • ceramics abstracts (CERAB);

  • computer and information systems abstracts (COMPUAB);

  • conference papers index (CONFSCI);

  • copper data center database (COPPERLIT), by arrangement with the Copper Development Association;

  • corrosion abstracts (CORROSION);

  • electronics and communications abstracts (ELCOM);

  • engineered materials abstracts (EMA);

  • health and safety science abstracts (HEALSAFE);

  • materials business file (MATBUS);

  • metals abstracts/alloy index (METADEX);

  • metals datafile (MDF);

  • life sciences collection (LIFESCI);

  • oceanic abstracts (OCEAN);

  • pollution abstracts (POLLUAB); and

  • solid state and superconductivity abstracts (SOLIDSTATE) and WELDASEARCH, by arrangement with TWI.
