Derwent World Patents Index First View on Dialog and STN

Thomson Derwent has announced the availability of Derwent World Patents Index First View (DWPI First ViewSM) on Dialog and STN International. DWPI First View is the new alerting companion file to Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI), a database of value-added patent information. For the first time, DWPI users will receive previews of the latest published patent documents in advance of their inclusion in Derwent World Patents Index. Searching DWPI First View in combination with Derwent World Patents Index will provide users with a comprehensive overview of global patenting activity.

DWPI First View records contain enhanced bibliographic data for all new patent documents, along with original titles, abstracts, technical drawing images, and English-language abstracts for patents from China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Russia.

Brian Tyler, Executive Vice President of Corporate Markets, Thomson Scientific, said:

  • DWPI First View answers our customers’ need for early identification and comprehensive coverage of new patent documents. By searching DWPI First View and DWPI in tandem, customers will receive a complete picture of patent activity. DWPI First View provides the timely data needed to monitor emerging technologies, identify leading inventors, and protect R&D investments.

Viji Krishman, Dialog Vice President of Publisher Management, remarked:

  • The addition of DWPI First View continues our commitment to offer Dialog users the broadest portfolio of content and features to provide scientists, researchers, and engineers with an efficient means to easily locate and comprehend the information they need for research and discovery.

Rainer Stuike-Prill, Head of Marketing at FIZ Karlsruhe, commented:

  • We are delighted to partner with Thomson Derwent to offer STN users this new patent alerting service. We feel confident that the advance previews of Derwent World Patent Index offered through DWPI First View will be an invaluable resource for the scientific community.
