Direct online tutoring and advice are offered to disadvantaged students and their parents by the Microtuteur programme, in France.

Microtuteur is an interactive mentoring service which gives the students access to an advisor who helps them to learn to study and solve problems by themselves. The programme also allows parents to track their children's progress and become involved in the learning process. The value of the tutors lies in their role as neutral advisors, between the teacher, student and parents.

Microtuteur provides the software package that runs on a standard personal computer with an Internet link. The service is open to all secondary-school pupils, but those whose parents are not disadvantaged must pay.

The Microtuteur package is being developed for use outside France. Details are available from Association Microtuteur, on 00 33 1 40 11 90 68.
