'Hit and miss' IT recruitment

"Hit and miss" IT recruitment

Keywords Information technology, Qualifications, Recruitment

Employers are taking a "hit and miss" approach to IT recruitment, says a study for the London Training and Enterprise Council.

Researcher Simon Tanner says that part of the problem is because recruiting IT specialists is left to personnel staff who often do not understand the technical issues. But the problem for all managers is that there is no recognized way of describing IT skills.

Survey respondents frequently said they had taken on apparently qualified staff, only to find that they could not do the tasks required.

The study calls for standard ways of testing IT job hunters and for formal logbooks to record their careers.
