The EU Council has formally adopted the regulation ensuring that students following courses or training in an EU member state other than their own are covered without exception by sickness insurance and social security.
Meanwhile, the Association des Etats Generaux de l'Europe, a body representing students in Europe, has requested the abolition of visas between European countries, and called on the EU not to force central European countries to introduce visas for their eastern neighbours.
The association claims that many of the eastern European students who receive a grant to study abroad cannot use it because visa procedures take so long.
