Educational maintenance allowances for 16- to 19-year-olds are being piloted.
Different levels of payment and different payment arrangements are being tested. Colleges which are outside the pilot areas but which recruit students from within the areas will also be expected to take part in the pilot scheme.
The pilots will take place in Bolton, Nottingham, Doncaster, Gateshead, Leeds, Cornwall, Middlesbrough, Oldham, Southampton, Stoke-on-Trent, Walsall and, jointly running a single project, the London boroughs of Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark and Greenwich.
