More use Internet in hunt for training
Keywords Internet, Europe, Training, Recruitment
Internet use in the EU almost doubled last year - and a major use people are making of it is the hunt for jobs and training. A European Commission survey reveals that some 27 million Europeans use the Internet at home and 22.4 million at work. An average of 8.3 per cent of private households in the EU had Internet access at the end of last year - up from 4.4 per cent in 1997. The level of Internet usage varies widely, from 39.6 per cent of the population in Sweden to 3.9 per cent in Greece. The UK figure is 10 per cent. The main areas of online interest emerged as local services, travel, health advice, and looking for jobs and training. The principal reasons that respondents gave for not using such services are that they see no need for them in their private life (55 per cent) and consider them too expensive (24.2 per cent).
