Italian vehicle manufacturer Fiat has signed an agreement with China covering training and research co-operation. The agreement, between the Fiat Research Centre and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, is part of the company's strategy of developing links in the countries where Fiat has manufacturing plants. There will be prizes to Chinese universities for dissertations on automotive subjects, one-year scholarships to allow Chinese graduates to study at the Fiat Research Centre, and scientific co-operation with research centres in Beijing and Nanking. Fiat already has links with universities in Brazil, Poland, India and Mexico. The Fiat Research Centre also operates a postgraduate school which prepares middle management to take postings abroad.
