Looking at the future of education
Looking at the future of education
Keywords: Education, Planning, European Union
The main themes identified by organizations and individuals examining the future of education systems in Europe are highlighted in a report by Eurydice, the information network on education in Europe.
The themes are: lifelong learning and adult education (in Denmark, Greece, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden and Britain); the need for "future-oriented" skills (in Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Finland, Sweden and Britain); and access to education and training for all (in Greece, Finland, Sweden and Britain).
The report, Forward Planning in Education in the Member States of the European Union, notes the increasing importance of planning in education in Europe. The bodies most often involved are ministries, permanent councils, commissions, ad-hoc committees, inter-ministerial bodies, advisory bodies, research centres, statistical institutes, universities, trade unions and employer organizations.
The report is available, free of charge, from Eurydice, 15 rue d'Arlon, B-1050 Brussels, Belgium. Tel: +32 2 238 3011; Fax: +32 2 230 6562.
