Young people were able to question 15 space experts over the Internet in a discussion organized by the European Commission and European Space Agency. Their questions included: Is there life on Mars? How do you become an astronaut? and How do we protect our planet? In another series of Internet debates, students aged 16-18 were able to question Euro-MPs on topics such as Europe's role in the world, EU enlargement and the functions of the European institutions. Further information on how an education institution can arrange to take part in similar debates in future is available from Michele Ciavarini Azzi. Tel: +32 2 284 3436; Fax: +32 2 284 9009.

Meanwhile, the French presidency of the EU organized a seminar and exhibition on "Talks on Education – e-Education". The event included Viviane Reding, European Commissioner responsible for education, training and culture, Jack Lang, French education minister, Roger-Gerard Schwartzenberg, French research minister, and Jean-Luc Melanchon, French deputy minister for vocational training.

Further information is available from Chantal Manes, at the French research ministry in Paris, by e-mailing chantal.manes@education.gouv.fr
