A degree course has been launched to educate a new type of graduate who will be at home supporting health-care delivery in the Internet age. The course in medical cybernetics, at the University of Bradford, will provide a grounding in medical knowledge in areas relevant to clinical, community and surgical health care, complemented with a full understanding of the systems driving the information-technology revolution. Dr John Baruch, head of the department of cybernetics, Internet and virtual systems, said: "Graduates will work in all areas of the National Health Service and supporting industries. They will be the people who will empower the patients and general practitioners to provide high-quality health care at home and in the clinics".
Bradford has also launched a fully-integrated Internet law degree, which deals with the subject of writing contracts on the Internet. Dr Baruch explained: "Use of the Internet for commerce is expanding rapidly and is expected to become the dominant form of commercial activity. For this to happen there will have to be an equally-rapid growth in support, particularly in the number of people with the skills to write e-commerce contracts and agreements. At present there is no law governing the Internet and commerce is based on traditional contractual arrangements supported by the law of the relevant country. Internet lawyers are currently self-taught. Successful Internet trading companies will be those which understand the complexities of Internet commerce".
