Research centre focuses on privatization of education
Research centre focuses on privatization of education
The first research centre in Britain to focus on the privatization of education has been launched at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. James Stanfield, a research associate at the E.G. West Centre, told Education + Training: "The centre's mission is to play a pivotal role in stimulating choice, competition and entrepreneurship in UK and international education markets."
The objectives are to:
- •
develop a research agenda focusing on how choice, competition and entrepreneurship operate in education markets around the world, and which regulatory frameworks and institutions best allow educational enterprise to flourish;
- •
provide leadership in the design and delivery of market-based solutions to address problems identified by ministries of education, local education authorities, international agencies, education companies and private schools, colleges and universities; and
- •
design and deliver stimulating education programmes to develop the entrepreneurial skills required for education in the twenty-first century.
James Stanfield continued: "Our existence is an indicator of the increasing acceptance of the role of the private sector in higher education."
