European education campaign launched

European education campaign launched

Some 150 students from 18 European countries met in Enschede, in the Netherlands, in the opening conference of the European education campaign (Eureca). The conference, on "European Integration in Education", dealt with issues such as immigration procedures as obstacles to studying abroad, the quality of higher education and the role of the private sector. The Bologna process, which aims to create a common European "space" for higher-education programmes, was also discussed. A follow-up conference, in the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca, examined in detail the current EU Socrates, Leonardo and Youth programmes. Eureca was launched by the European students' forum AEGEE, as part of Education Action Week, and aims to daft proposals for a new programme that will bring fundamental change to education in Europe.
