Euro-MP calls for more EU support for universities

The EU should increase its support for universities to facilitate the creation of a European higher-education area, says Spanish Euro-MP, Christina Gutierrez Cortines. In her report to the European Parliament, she says that, while universities should remain autonomous, EU support is important to create a dynamic European higher-education area. She also calls for increased mobility of students, researchers and lecturers, and genuine mutual recognition of qualifications. She urges the European Commission to examine the working conditions of university students, researchers, administrators and teachers, and to identify how universities could be helped to perform their role more effectively.
