Trans-Atlantic projects selected for support

Trans-Atlantic projects selected for support

A total of 19 education and training projects have been selected for funding under EU co-operation programmes with the USA and Canada. They involve 66 higher-education and vocational-training establishments in the EU, and will receive EU support of around e2.3 million. They cover areas ranging from student exchanges to e-learning, and subjects ranging from "September 11 and Beyond: the Challenge for Journalism Education" to the development of an international masters' degree focusing on bio-fuel and air-quality studies.

The 13 EU-US projects and six EU-Canada schemes were selected from the 50 proposals received in 2001. Viviane Reding, European Commissioner responsible for education and training, said: "The projects have been selected for their innovative aspects and potential to produce outcomes that can be used in other contexts and settings. The combined forces of the trans-Atlantic project partners will lead to results that could not have been achieved in a strictly European setting."
