Imperial College receives Euro-loan

Research facilities at Imperial College, London, are being upgraded with the help of a €33.58 million loan from the European Investment Bank. Most of the money will be spent on the medical and biochemistry faculties. "This investment supports the British government's policy to promote enterprise, skills and innovation, and meets the aims of the European Investment Bank's own Innovation 2010 initiative to encourage the development of a European knowledge-based economy," said Peter Sedgwick, bank vice-president. "We will invest in the modernization of high-performing university research facilities and science-based education infrastructure. In the longer term, this will contribute, through commercial development spin-offs, to introducing innovation among local small and medium-size enterprises."
