ESF promotes employment opportunities
People have more chance of finding work if they benefit from a training scheme financed by the European Social Fund. A survey that looked at what happened to people who had completed ESF-funded projects over a recent six-month period revealed that the likelihood of beneficiaries being in work increased from 37 per cent on entry to the programme to 47 per cent on leaving it. The survey showed that 37 per cent of ESF-training participants were in work, 21 per cent were unemployed and 39 per cent were “economically inactive” on joining the programme. More than half of all entrants gained a full qualification and a further 9 per cent gained credits or units towards one.
Of the 47 per cent who were not working at the time of the survey, almost three-quarters felt that they had improved their skills, and more felt they were more confident as a result of ESF training.
