Vocational training “deserves parity with general education”

Professional training should be placed on an equal footing with general education, says the European Association of Craft, Small and Medium-Size Enterprises (UEAPME). Hans-Werner Muller, UEAPME secretary-general, said: “Vocational training plays a crucial role in addressing the needs of the labour market and this must be recognized. Steps must be taken to ensure that vocational training has the same status as other types of higher level education.” UEAPME emphasized the importance of the EU targets to increase the proportion of students in scientific and technological disciplines to 15 per cent and to reduce to 10 per cent the proportion of pupils who leave school as soon as they are legally allowed.
