Many SMEs see the benefit of taking a student on work experience, but are unsure how to go about it, or indeed what their options are. Others assume that taking on a student is too time-consuming and of little benefit to their business. This guide aims to help SMEs overcome these issues. Its user-friendly application minimises the time required by the employer to provide a positive experience for both parties. The guide raises awareness for the potential of recruiting students and graduates. It also enables SMEs to develop better links with their local universities, which could lead to co-operation with a range of departments and thus to other forms of knowledge transfer.

For universities and other support organizations the guide is available on licence for a one-off fee of £1,000 per organisation. The material will be delivered electronically once a licence agreement has been signed. This allows customisation, e.g. adding your own logos, adapting some of the text to make reference to your own systems and procedures, as well as adding appropriate contact details.

For SMEs/employers a hard copy of the Guide is available for £15.00, not including postage and packing. The Guide walks you through the various options available when looking to take students into your business. It also covers the recruitment and selection process, as well as good practice once the student is in place.
