Commissioner visits USA to strengthen trans-Atlantic relations in higher education

Ján Figel, European Commissioner for Education and Training, has visited Washington and Boston to reinforce European-US co-operation in higher education and vocational training, which has involved more than 600 institutions and 3,000 students since it began more than a decade ago.

The EU and the USA have been running a joint programme in higher education and vocational training since 1995. The programme’s core activities are joint curriculum development and student exchanges in a wide range of disciplines. More than 600 institutions have taken part by building trans-Atlantic study programmes and over 3,000 students have benefited from the resulting exchanges. The programme is now up for renewal.
