Distributor service excellence awards get full industry backing

Keywords Hygiene services, Awards

The Cleaning and Hygiene Supplies Association (CHSA) has revived the popular Distributor Service Excellence Awards Programme (DSEA), created by Kimberly-Clark and previously sponsored by them and DiverseyLever Ltd.

The awards are designed to promote excellence of service by distributors of cleaning and maintenance products and equipment. They were originally launched almost a decade ago, but were suspended in 1998 for redevelopment as a bi-annual event and to obtain additional sponsorship.

Graham Fletcher, General Secretary of the CHSA, said, when announcing the re-launch: "This is a very significant move for the industry and the CHSA. We are very proud to start our new millennium activities with this prestigious programme designed to promote excellence."

The new millennium DSEAwards will be the biggest and best ever. They are not, as in the past, sponsored by only two manufacturers. This year the programme has nine major suppliers backing it – household names from the cleaning and maintenance industry. This indicates the high profile and the importance that the industry places on this programme.

Sponsors for 2000 are: Addis Commercial, DiverseyLever Ltd, Robert Scott Professional Products, Johnson Wax Professional, Kimberly-Clark Away From Home UK, 3M United Kingdom Plc., Procter & Gamble UK, Sashpoint Ltd and Selden Research.

In December 1998, the last DSEAwards saw 104 participating distributor companies enter the programme. The prestigious awards ceremony, attended by 148 winners and guests, was held at the top Warwickshire country club and golf course – the internationally famous Belfry Hotel.

Graham Fletcher said: "We believed that the DSEAwards had gone as far as they could in '98. A new committee was formed and new sponsors found. We have taken all the many good points from the last programme and built on them to take the whole project a great step forward."

"This is very much an accreditation not a competition. Like Investors in People, BSI 5750, ISO 9000, etc., the DSEAwards are also recognition for excellence of company performance and human achievement. Like these other schemes, the DSEA logo should be used on the stationery, vehicles and in advertising of those organisations reaching our top standards."

Who can enter?

If you are a distributor of cleaning, hygiene, maintenance or janitorial products and want to find out just how good you are compared with the rest of the profession, now is your chance to find out.

If you are a distribution company and are proud of the service you offer, you can enter the firm you work for. End-user customers can nominate the distributor who supplies their products because of the excellent service provided.

Either way, it does not matter whether you are a small independent distributor, or a branch of a multiple outlet organisation – both have an equal opportunity for accreditation.

It does not matter what products you sell either – you have an equal chance of reaching accreditation, whether you stock all the sponsors' product ranges or none of them.

You do not have to be a CHSA member to enter, although new members are always welcome. The programme is about excellence of service and it is judged by an independent research company to ensure that everyone gets fair treatment.

How to enter

Simply contact the CHSA for an entry form – they are simple to enter and do not take more than five minutes to complete. Details and entry forms are available from the CHSA on +44 (0)1628 478273; fax: +44 (0)1628 478286.
