The winning team (Jaguar and Land Rover)

Purpose – Describes how Ford has brought together its two UK acquisitions, Jaguar and Land Rover, into one successful organization, describing the “Creating the winning team” program that has been key to this process. Design/methodology/approach – Based on interviews with key personnel from Jaguar and Land Rover, describes how the “Creating the winning team” program improved the leadership of the organization, explaining the training and management development initiatives that underpinned this. Identifies the indicators that the program has been a success. Findings – Points out that Jaguar and Land Rover’s “Creating the winning team” initiative won the Investors in People Outstanding Workplace of the Year award in 2006. Also points to improvements in the organization’s key performance metrics and improvements in the organization’s financial position, all of which suggest a major turnaround in the organization’s performance. Originality/value – Argues that the experience of Jaguar and Land Rover demonstrates the link between effective training and good business performance.ISSN: 1465-6523Reference: 36AL533
