Purpose – describes the partnership forged between a company and university aimed at providing training to employees aimed at improving the quality of test data. Design/methodology/approach – provides a case study of how a major engine manufacturer joined forces with a university to provide training to a group of employees. Outlines how the company’s objective was to improve data quality by improving the calibration of test instruments. Outlines the university’s objectives, outcomes, schedule and assessment plan developed by the university faculty and reports on how Cummins designed a charter to support the training effort consisting of five elements believed to be essential to competent calibration.
