John Potter CEO of John Potter Global Consulting

is the recipient of the journal's Outstanding Paper Award for Excellence for his paper

"Creating a passion for change: the art of intelligent leadership"

which appeared in Industrial and Commercial Training, Vol. 33 No. 2, 2001

John Potter is both a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered Psychologist. His career has been wide ranging and has included posts in education, industry, the military and also time as a professional musician. He moved from engineering via medical electronics into psychology and for eight years taught military psychology at the Royal Military Academy. He became interested in a range of issues, from leadership to terrorism, and developed a special expertise in hostage psychology. He has had experience of advising in hostage and kidnap situations, as well as training hostage negotiators. Most of his work now is concerned with culture change and developing leadership at all levels within the organization and he works with a wide range of blue chip clients. As one of the few people in Europe with a PhD in leadership, he was appointed Visiting Professor to the Centre for Leadership Studies at the University of Exeter in 1998 and is now a full associate.
