Vega advances with the Swedish armed forces

The Swedish Armed Forces Procurement Agency has selected a course developed by Lufthansa Technical Training and Vega for its jet-aircraft maintenance fundamentals programme.

The programme will provide new recruits with more access to basic maintenance training procedures than previously possible, speeding up training and expanding their fundamental knowledge.

The course will mainly be used at Aerotechnical Services School, located at Halmstad. The training involves around 165 hours of self-paced, interactive courseware designed specifically to meet the needs of trainee aviation mechanics. The courseware covers a significant portion of the aircraft technical and related sections of the European JAR 66 syllabus and will also help in supporting other regulatory requirements for basic training.

The course is already used by airlines and aviation training schools world-wide to deliver basic jet aircraft engineering training. The Swedish contract, including a range of support services, is worth more than £333,000.

Major Stefan Nordgren, of the Swedish armed forces, commented: "We are confident that the programme will provide us with the quality and consistency we are looking for to train our staff. Our own thorough evaluation of the programme before our decision to purchase is also backed by the positive comments from the schools here in Sweden that have been using the programme for the last two years. Additionally we were already familiar with Vega's track record in developing high quality and practical solutions to both military and civil markets".

Alan Gaby, Vega director of defence and aviation, said: "This new relationship with the Swedish Armed Forces Procurement Agency builds on our already strong presence within Scandinavia's commercial-aviation industry. Both the agency and Vega will jointly explore positive opportunities for expanding the course's content even further to satisfy military and commercial training requirements".
