Car-rental firm gears up for online learning

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 42, Issue 1

Fox Rent-a-Car, which claims to be the world’s largest independent car rental company, has selected a new learning-management system to help it to track and deliver online training and employee career-development courses.

The company hopes that the LearnCenter software will optimise, standardise and enhance employee training and development by delivering just-in-time training to employees at its ten main offices around the world.

Fox will create, track and launch courses on topics including operations, customer service, leadership and management.

“We needed to extend the reach of our training department and frequency of our training and the supplier provided us with the easy-to-use and robust tools to allow us to accomplish this”, said Jose Giraldo, Vice-President of Quality Assurance. “In addition to allowing us to provide our employees with individual development, the system will grow with us as we open up our next stores. It will allow us to synchronise everything, including our development training, compliance training and HR systems”.

Meanwhile, Group One Investments, a holding company with seven operating groups, has selected LearnCenter to help it to provide and monitor development and compliance training to employees throughout the USA.

Group One Investments will use the platform to create various online training modules, and to launch and track both federal and state-government mandated training. The company will also use the platform to manage and track instructor-led training events, including online registration and recorded follow-up information.

“We needed a way to automate and track our training so that we can better develop our employees while ensuring compliance with mandatory regulations. The new platform will provide our employees with an online university where they can grow with our company”, said Junique Danberry, Marketing Manager at Group One Investments.

The company has grown from having a single $600-a-week contract to earning nearly $35 million in revenues. It has striven to preserve both the entrepreneurial spirit and family-orientated environment that it boasts as the hallmarks of its corporate culture.
