Care-home provider creates online university

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 42, Issue 5

Classic Residence by Hyatt, a US care-home provider for the elderly, has created an online university for its employees. It offers them access to more than 1,000 courses and resources, a management-development program, Rosetta Stone language learning and customized learning centers for various functions within the company.

“At Classic Residence by Hyatt, we believe that providing employees with the opportunity to learn and grow not only benefits them, but also improves the service and care our residents receive,” said Judy Whitcomb, assistant vice-president for learning and organizational development. “Since learning and employee development initiatives are key components of our strategic planning, we have carefully aligned e-campus courses around core business and employee needs.”

The selection of Classic Residence by Hyatt’s recently introduced resident-care learning program involved a partnership with the resident-care team and development co-ordinators from the field. The affiliation helped to make training exceed the company’s needs and leveraged expertise in regulatory requirements, actual content from a clinical perspective and ease of use for all levels of care staff.

“Because e-campus is so vital to resident-care operations, the collaboration between our learning, organizational-development and resident-care departments is key,” said Joanne Carlin, vice-president, resident care. “This can be best demonstrated in the recent selection and integration of more than 500 new courses for our resident-care team.”
