Kentz energizes its high-potential employees

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 44, Issue 3

Two interactive workshops were held in the Kentz Al-Khobar office in Saudi Arabia to develop graduates and other high-potential employees.

The workshops were in communication skills and Level 1 management skills, and form part of the global engineering specialist solutions provider’s graduate-development program. Both courses were facilitated by Dr Eric Sandelands, of Corporate Learning Consultants Ltd.

Ross O’Muirthile, Kentz manager for Saudi Arabia, provided a senior-management perspective on communications in the country and communicating with global stakeholders. He stressed the benefits of the action-learning process in developing teams and solving problems. Themes developed in the workshop included communication challenges, managerial communications, the interpersonal aspects of communicating and the barriers faced, including cultural barriers.

In his presentation and question-and-answer session, Michael Pyers, the company’s regional HR manager, stressed the opportunities to gain experience and develop a career within Kentz and the impact of the global village on working life. Among the major topics covered were: becoming a new manager; learning styles; supervising people; working relationships and managing stakeholders; and conflict and complex expectations.

Kentz has more than 11,000 employees operating in 28 countries. It has provided specialist engineering, procurement and construction services and technical-support services to clients in the energy and resources sectors for more than 90 years.
