Editor's note

First of all, I would like to offer a warm welcome to our readers. Vol. 2, Issue 2 of IJOEM is our second special issue of IJOEM. The special issue on Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in emerging markets, guest-edited by Rangamohan Eunni, Candida Brush and Rammohan Kasuganti is the result of an extensive and extremely well-organized call for papers on the subject. We are truly excited to have these three fine scholars put this together for us at IJOEM. I will not describe the papers included in the issue since the guest editors have provided a brief overview.

As becomes readily obvious as you read through this special issue, the role of SMEs in the economic fortunes of developing countries is as crucial as that of developed countries. The geographical scope; conceptual diversity and empirical relevance of the studies included in this special issue are especially pleasing and valuable to the readership of IJOEM.

I have enjoyed working with our guest editors on this special issue. Our discussions started in July 2005. I am also truly delighted that this project has come to fruition. Dr Eunni's professionalism and organizational skills are remarkable and he is a model colleague and scholar.

As has been stated several times in previous issues of IJOEM, not only are we offering a place for research into relatively less researched geographical areas of the world, but we are also focusing on publishing research on “emerging” themes too. A special issue that combines the two objectives as this second special issue has is an especially pleasing outcome.
