In a bid to boost (and regulate) fuel efficiency norms for cars in India, the government is bringing in a star rating system in the automobile sector. The new labelling will enable Indian car owners to know how eco-friendly their car is.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) along with the Ministry of Road and Surface Transport has finalized the corporate average fuel efficiency measure, which will enable them to measure the fuel economy of an entire product line of a car maker.
