The third edition of this reference book is now available and contains 11 chapters. The contents are: Part I – An Introduction to Public Relations. Part II – Nine Steps to Effective Public Relations – The Basic Principles (including ethics and applied communication theory). Part III – The Tools of Public Relations (including Interpersonal Communication, Print Media, Radio, Television, Web Sites, Exhibits, Special Events, Photography and Research). Part IV – Back of the Book (Biopolitics, Emergency Information Services and Looking to the Future).

The original book was prepared by long‐time Wildlife Society member and resource communication pioneer, Douglas L. Gilbert. It was published in 1964. James Fazio joined Douglas Gilbert as co‐author in 1981 to update the content and broaden it for applicability to forestry and all other areas of natural resource and resource‐based recreation management. The new edition continues the tradition.
