Elsevier signs agreement with seven Virginia universities

Good news for Elsevier after the news of cancellations from Cornell etc. The “walk up” provision is potentially interesting if universities are able to cope with the demand and especially if free access includes free downloads!

Elsevier has given the James Madison University Cooperative (JMUC) access to 6 million articles on ScienceDirect, and other journals in a five-year agreement.

The agreement provides the JMUC user community with access to approximately 6 million full-text articles on Science Direct. Furthermore, the agreement contains the standard Elsevier “walk-up” provision, which permits all Virginia citizens coming to libraries for scientific and medical information, free access to content covered under the agreement.
