Hose cleaning breakthrough boosts machinery efficiency

Hose cleaning breakthrough boosts machinery efficiency

Keywords: Cleaning, Hoses

A revolutionary hose-cleaning system designed to prevent in-line contamination and increase machinery efficiency has been introduced by Pirtek (UK) Ltd, the leading mobile hose replacement company (see Plate 1).

When hoses or tubes are cut, tiny particles find their way inside, even in storage or transit hoses can become contaminated with dust and moisture; and new contaminants may be introduced during assembly procedures. The resulting wear and tear not only increases running costs, but can lead to total system failure.

The Pirtek system, known as Hose Cleaning Solution (HCS), achieves levels of cleanliness rarely achieved in hydraulic and industrial hoses, and so boosts machinery efficiency and reduces downtime.

HCS uses compressed air to propel a foam pellet through the hose. The pellet is 20 percent larger than the internal diameter of the hose, so it thoroughly cleans and wipes the surface, forcing dust, grit and moisture out. All Pirtek hose assemblies are now internally cleaned using this technique.

It is both more efficient and more environmentally friendly than traditional methods such as air blowing or flushing with oil and harmful chemicals.

The system is ideal, too, for use as part of a preventative maintenance programme. Each of Pirtek's 300 Mobil Service Units and 62 service depots are fully equipped to provide fast on-site cleaning of fixed and flexible lines. In most situations there is no need for costly dismantling of systems. Simply disconnecting each end and firing the pellet through the assembly will purge it of residual oils, grease and contamination.
