New computer software, developed by SGS, enables clients to receive and interpret results generated by Redwood's oil condition monitoring programme, Oilscan. The Windows-based application, Redwood Lynx, allows remote, end users to import analytical data, via e-mail, the Internet or disk, which can be processed to produce management and statistical reports.

Measurement results for physical, spectrographic and DR ferrography, prepared using Redwood Oilscan, are manipulated to create easily interpreted summaries, from simple diagnostic reports to more detailed information on turnaround times, wear and tear indicators, scheduling and costing. Such data can be displayed as graphical trends and either previewed on-screen or printed in full colour.

Redwood Lynx is available in five modules: basic, standard, management, scheduling and accounts, thus allowing clients to choose the option that best suits their particular circumstances. Recommended system requirements include a 486 or Pentium PC, 8MB of RAM, Windows 95 or NT, an HP colour printer, a modem and e-mail/Internet access.

Oil analysis gives a fast, accurate picture of what is happening inside a machine. Oil content monitoring, carried out using Oilscan technology, analyses oil and lubricants for trace elements, such as lead, copper, calcium and phosphorus as well as viscosity, water content and general appearance. Sampling is conducted regularly and historic data is compiled. The results are interpreted to produce a diagnostic picture of the machine's "state of health" and problems such as the wear and tear of critical components can be detected before failure occurs.
