Sulzer Pumps Ltd has built 22 pumps of different types at its Leeds factory for installation on a Korean-built, floating- oil-production vessel in Wallsend, before the vessel is towed for duty to the Bonga offshore oilfield in Nigeria. Amec Services awarded the £4 million contract to Sulzer on behalf of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Oil Production Company (SNEPCO) (Plates 2-5).
These include some very large pumps, varying in throughput capacity from 110 m3/h to 3800 m3/h, requiring drivers ranging in power from 110 kW for the smallest up to 11,000 kW for the largest. Each pump has been designed and selected for a specific use, such as seawater injection, seawater lift and various process duties.

For example, the HPcp pump, designed for seawater injection, has super duplex stainless steel casing and internals. The pump was tested at full power, speed and throughput, using an 11,000 kW solar gas turbine driver, at Sulzer's own test facility at Leeds.
Sulzer also provided all ancillary equipment including motors, air blast coolers, lube oil systems and variable speed couplings.
