Dow expands polyglycols portfolio in Europe

Keywords: Dow, SYNALOX Lubricants, Lubricants

By broadening the range of base stock SYNALOX Lubricants and teaming them up with the UCON formulated fluid line, Dow has expanded its portfolio of lubricant products to meet increased demands for more versatile and flexible lubricants in Europe.

SYNALOX Lubricants are now available in the ISO viscosity range of 22-1,000, and include products for both water-soluble and water-insoluble applications. The broader viscosity range allows SYNALOX Lubricants to provide one of the industry's most extensive ranges of non-labeled products, and reflects Dow's commitment to delivering environmentally-responsible polyglycols.

SYNALOX Lubricants are polyalkalene glycols developed with special characteristics to make them ideally suited as base stocks, components or additives in a wide variety of lubricant formulations. They feature excellent lubricity, high viscosity indices, low pour points and clean burning properties.

SYNALOX Lubricants show very good response to conventional lubricant additives and can be formulated to meet the highest performance standards, particularly in applications involving potentially lubricant- degrading high temperatures. Gear lubricants, compressor lubricants, hydraulic fluids and greases are common applications. The UCON formulated fluid line, acquired through the merger of Dow and Union Carbide in 2001, rounds out the offering. In addition to polyglycols, Dow provides customized solutions that expand formulation options and provide opportunities for customers to create or enhance products and expand their markets. Dow's research, pilot and manufacturing facilities enable them to rapidly develop and test new products, then scale up to produce the quantities required.

Dow also provides an outsourcing service for the blending or formulation of polyglycol- based lubricants. As polyglycols are not miscible with hydrocarbon-based oils, they require dedicated blending plants for smooth production and to guarantee high quality standards. Dow's outsourcing service can save the expense of operating a dedicated polyglycol blending facility.

Dow's experience of over 30 years in polyglycol manufacturing and alkoxylation expertise has allowed them to build up a vast distribution network. Dow is a back- integrated manufacturer of all three alkylene oxides used to produce polyglycols, with manufacturing locations around the world. New plants and ongoing modernization plants have expanded Dow's production and distribution capacity and confirm Dow's long-term commitment to the global polyglycol market.

Dow is a leading science and technology company that provides innovative chemical, plastic and agricultural products and services to many essential consumer markets. With annual sales of $28 billion, Dow serves customers in more than 170 countries and a wide range of markets that are vital to human progress, including food, transportation, health and medicine, personal and home care, and building and construction, among others. Committed to the principles of Sustainable Development, Dow and its approximately 50,000 employees seek to balance economic, environmental and social responsibilities.
