In this issue, we present five papers covering work from four different countries.

Two of the papers are concerned with anti-wear properties with another two reporting on some current thinking in the field of hydrostatic bearing design. Rounding things off is a piece of work from China looking at the theory of flow factors.

Although in Industrial Lubrication and Tribology we are of course concentrating on the technical side of things there are times when the commercial world and its problems should perhaps change our direction?

Recently, we have seen serious dislocation to the supply of base oils and additives caused by severe weather conditions in the USA and major manufacturing plant problems in other parts of the world. This has meant that alternative base oils and additives have been tried. Has your university or research establishment been engaged in testing or developing substitute materials? Of course commercial confidentiality will prevent some work being reported but it would be interesting to readers to learn of new development techniques that will have come to the fore under times when a fast answer is needed!

What do you think? The editorial team here at ILT will always welcome your comments.
