Durable pumps provide accuracy at lower cost

Article Type: New products From: Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, Volume 61, Issue 2

Where pumping applications require high accuracy, even when “difficult” fluids need transferring, such as those which are non-lubricating, viscous or are abrasive, Hydra-Cell pumps (Figure 6) are a cost-effective alternative to traditional metering pumps. Available through pumping specialists Michael Smith Engineers, Hydra-Cell pumps offer precise and consistent pumping accuracy with smooth, precise flows of ±1 per cent, repeatability to 3 per cent or better, linearity to 3 per cent or better and a turndown ratio of 10:1.

The Hydra-Cell is an inherently simple pump system, both from a mechanical pumping and control standpoint. By utilising a variable speed drive, extremely accurate pump performance is achieved, resulting in virtually pulse-free flow rates which are precisely controlled by motor speed. They also benefit from a heavy-duty construction to ensure long service life, even in demanding applications.

The key features of the pumps include a fixed-angle cam which translates rotary motion into linear motion in the hydraulic cells, diaphragms which are hydraulically balanced ensuring no stress during flexing and roller bearings, immersed in a lubricating oil bath, which provide rigid shaft support.

Hydra-Cell pumps are seal less design, and so can pump liquids at high pressures without any leakage including liquids which contain solids in suspension. They are also capable of metering viscous slurries and can be run dry.

The standard range of pumps offered covers flow rates from 0.4 up to 44 l/min and pressures up to 172 bar. However, to meet specific requirements and applications Hydra-Cell offer the facility of modified pump components, along with custom pump head or body castings.

Hydra-Cell pumps can handle a wide spectrum of industrial and commercial fluids, such as propane, butane, ammonia, fuels and additives, through to chlorine, acids and caustics, glues and adhesives, inks, paints, resins, and even slurries.
