The world's biggest ever order for arc welding and laser cutting robots has been won by FANUC Robotics North America. Placed by Formet Industries, it covers over 450 robots to automate truck frame production at its new St Thomas, Ontario facility.

The order followed an indepth assessment and evaluation of the options that took over a year. According to Peter Fitzgerald, General Manager of FANUC Robotics, Canada: "FANUC's ability to provide single source support for the entire project was a major factor in the final decision.

"Formet will produce 5,000 truck frames per day at the St Thomas facility", continued Fitzgerald. "To achieve this, the company not only needed an efficient, reliable automation system, but a supplier capable of taking the project from concept to installation then supporting it throughout the life of the system."
