Electrolux subsidiary Vestplast in Denmark is currently installing a fourth ES2000 demould robot from ATM Automation as part of a continuing programme to upgrade and extend automation in its moulding factory.

Automation has long been a major factor in quality control for Vestplast. The first three robots were fitted to machines without automation; the fourth is replacing an existing robot as a means of introducing more advanced handling techniques. ATM agent in Denmark Thomas Duus of Multiplast anticipates installing further units later in 1998.

Vestplast moulds a wide range of components for Electrolux domestic refrigerators and freezer cabinets. Parts range from handles and drawer fronts to complete drawers and large salad containers and vegetable boxes. It is essential that the as-moulded, high quality, cosmetic finish is retained throughout production and handling, hence the extensive use of mechanised systems which Vestplast is constantly updating.

ATM ES2000 robots are currently fitted to a 250-tonne and two 650-tonne injection machines; the fourth will operate on a 500-tonne machine. Typically, they are required to remove the finished part, place it into a Tampon printing machine (for wording, logo or design to be printed), and then remove it for placing on a conveyor. The latest ATM robot will, as a final operation, place the part into a plastic bag for protection during packaging and despatch.
