Yaskawa, the world's largest drives manufacturer, has added to its comprehensive range of servo drives and motors with the new …-mini series of servomotors (see Plate 8). The series is billed as the smallest AC servomotors available.

Offered in both 10W and 20W ratings, the series is available with three different options: motor only, motor with brake and motor with gearbox. The 10W units have a remarkably small footprint of just 25mm x 25mm x 54mm, and 25mm x 25mm x 64mm for the 20W unit.

These fast accurate motors have a rated speed of 3,000rev/min and a maximum rotation speed of 5,000rev/min, making them ideal for X-Y positioning, PCB assembly machines and many other low power servo applications. Sinusoidal motor commutation via a 2048 PPR (pulses/rev) encoder ensures smooth performance over the entire operating speed range, while achieving acceleration/deceleration rates in excess of 40,000rads/sec/sec.

In conjunction with these motors Yaskawa offers dedicated 24V input, 10 and 20W servo drives incorporating all the latest advanced features such as auto-tuning, digital parameter setting and comprehensive fault diagnostics.
