Two complete robot welding gun cells have been supplied to Nuovo Tecno Robot of Italy by Portable Welders, one of Europe's leading welding equipment manufacturers.
The two cells supplied are totally integrated and comprise gun, electrode arms, welding control system, cable loom and services interface panel. The spot welding guns are both from Portable Welders' latest release of robot guns and incorporate powerful ISO transformers with inbuilt current sensing toroids, these ensure that the facilities of the weld are used to the full to give a very accurate and precise control over the weld (see Plate 4).

Both robots are now operating successfully in their respective locations with one cell being used to apply spot welds on vending machine cabinets and the other used in the high volume manufacture of seating components for Fiat.
Portable Welders first started supplying directly to Tecno Robot in 1997 when the Italian company took over direct responsibility for the design and build of robot spot welding cells. Portable Welders were appointed not only as the preferred equipment supplier but also to work in a consultancy capacity and to design the welding aspects of the robot installations.
Initially, Tecno Robot had difficulty in sourcing a welding equipment manufacturer which could supply them with the complete welding cell. Portable Welders are one of a very few companies, worldwide, which are able to offer an integrated concept and the success of their relationship with Tecno Robot and other robot line builders, hinges on this ability.
