New from Leader Grippers, Chertsey, is a special parallel gripper for use on robots and other automated assembly machines which features a centre through-hole.

This type of arrangement enables a camera, or any type of sensor equipment, or even a cylinder to be fitted in the bore (see Plate 5).

Whatever is located in the bore, it is fully protected against external damage. Nor can any cables wrap round, or tangle with the gripper, since they emanate from the centre.

Air connections may also be run in through the centre and attached to ports on the back or side of the housing.

Leader's new parallel gripper is double-acting. It has two cylinders sited off-centre, but aligned together and linked so that only two air connections are required.

The device weights just 980g. Total stroke is 25mm and the closing force is 300N. The jaws travel along a precision T-slot to ensure a straight non-rotating movement.
