Pressflow, the robot arm of flexible handling specialists Modular Handling, developed the service in response to growing customer needs according to Sales Director Roger Austin who said:

As a cost-effective alternative to purchasing new robots, the "new for old" philosophy sees the total re-engineering of robots including software upgrades, new end-of arm-tooling, updated safety systems, worn part and drive replacement, updated control systems and the latest interface technology.

With an assigned service engineering team, robots are collected, refurbished and re-installed with minimal disruption to production. The service is fast becoming a popular choice for leading moulders who are building the refurbishment into annual planned maintenance strategies.

The scheme is an integral part of Modular Handling's commitment to a seamless handling service according to Customer Care Manager Alf Gretton:

Our robots are built to operate, but harsh working environments and trends towards 24-hour up-time levels will eventually take their toll. Robot refurbishment is part of a wider strategy to support injection moulders with a professional after-sales service - from planned maintenance and staff training through to engineering advice and all-round customer care.
