The Robotics Surrogate is claimed to be the first robot to achieve human-level dexterity. Developed under NASA SBIR by Ross-Hime Designs, Inc., it was designed for the latest electric actuation, packaging and kinematics. The robot has proved useful in nuclear, hazardous waste, and other dangerous environments. Even in space, the robot can be used to make space station and satellite repairs instead of endangering an astronaut. Also, the robot can be used in repetitive motion tasks to prevent carpal tunnel and spinal injuries.

One spin-off product is Minnac miniature linear actuators. These robotic muscles have ready markets in packaging, placement and other motion applications.

They are electrically powered and can be controlled by electronics.
